The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, together with the parish of St. Nicholas, served notice on Dec. 6 to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PA), the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, the Empire State Development Corporation and associated individuals of their intention to sue these agencies over their actions that have prevented the St. Nicholas church, destroyed at Ground Zero on 9/11, from being rebuilt. Under New York State law, a 60-day notice is required before certain claims can be filed against the PA. Read More

The new Archdiocesan Council of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America held the first meeting of its 2010-2012 term, Oct. 15 in New York’s Marriott Marquis Hotel with His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America presiding. The members of the new Council serve for a two-year term expiring at the next Clergy-Laity Congress in 2012. NEW YORK – The Direct Archdiocesan District Office of Education is pleased to announce that the recent decision of the Board of Regents of the New York State Education Department to eliminate in 2010 the Regents Comprehensive Examinations in German, Hebrew, and Latin (Italian in 2011), in an effort to reduce its deficit, will not affect the development of the Comprehensive Examination in Modern Greek by the Archdiocesan District Office of Education.
