Archon Webinar: Putin, Patriarch Kirill, And The Threat To Global Orthodoxy, May 19

With the blessing and under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Orthodox Christian Study Center of Fordham University will present a webinar, Putin, Patriarch Kirill, and the Threat to Global Orthodoxy. This illuminating and educational presentation will begin at 7:00PM (ET) on the Sunday of the Myrrh-Bearing Women, May 19, 2024.

Moscow Patriarch Kirill’s unambiguous and enthusiastic support for the invasion of Ukraine has exposed the extent to which his office has been diminished into an extension of the Russian government’s aggressive imperialist ambitions. But the use of the Russian Church for political and cultural gain is not limited to the invasion of Ukraine; nor did it start in 2021. This panel will explore the various means by which the Moscow Patriarchate is coordinating with the Russian government to spread disinformation and its own influence across the globe, including here in the United States, and often in direct opposition to the initiatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, who will introduce the webinar, leading clergy and scholars will in this webinar discuss Russian Church expansion in Africa and East Asia, and the Russian assault of Ukraine.

Distinguished speakers will include His Eminence Ambrosios, Metropolitan of Korea and Exarch of JapanAnthony J. Limberakis, MD, National Commander of the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate; and the Very Rev. Cyril Hovorun, Professor of Ecclesiology, International Relations, and Ecumenism at Sankt Ignatios Theological Academy, Stockholm School of Theology. Archon Dr. George Demacopoulos, professor and co-founder of the Orthodox Christian Study Center, Fordham University, will moderate the webinar.

His Eminence Metropolitan Ambrosios will discuss the Russian Threat for Orthodox Witness in Korea and Japan.

Dr. Limberakis will discuss the Russian Government attacks upon the Ecumenical Patriarchate and Orthodoxy worldwide.

Father Cyril Moscow’s threat to the Holy Church in Africa and on the War in Ukraine as a challenge to Pan Orthodox Unity.
