Archbishop Elpidophoros of America welcomed Rev. Archimandrite Gedeon Varytimos to the Archdiocese Headquarters

On Wednesday November 8, 2023, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America welcomed Rev. Archimandrite Gedeon Varytimos to the Archdiocese Headquarters to offer his blessing upon his new assignment as the assistant priest for the Saint Demetrios Cathedral in Astoria, NY.  Also pictured is the Chancellor of the Archdiocese District, the Rev. Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Elias Villis.

Rev. Archimandrite Gedeon Varytimos is a distinguished clergyman with a rich history of service and a deep commitment to his faith and community. Fr. Gedeon was ordained to the Diaconate on Pentecost in 2013 by then Metropolitan of Bursa, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America. This ordination marked the beginning of his dedicated service to the church and set the stage for a remarkable spiritual journey.

On January 12, 2020, Archbishop Elpidophoros ordained him to the Priesthood, further deepening his involvement in the spiritual leadership of the Holy Archdiocese. His ordination as a Priest was a testament to his commitment to the ministry and the trust placed in him by the church hierarchy.  On May 21, 2021, he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite, a recognition of his spiritual leadership and devotion to the Church.

Throughout his time in the United States, Fr. Gedeon has served the Holy Archdiocese as its Registrar, bringing his administrative and pastoral skills to this vital role. In March 2020, he assumed the responsibilities of Proistamenos of the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Jackson Heights, NY, where he provided spiritual guidance and pastoral care to the congregation. Fr. Gedeon holds a degree from the School of Social and Pastoral Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and is now pursuing a post-graduate degree from the Holy Cross-Hellenic School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts.

This new role in Astoria reflects his unwavering dedication to the church and its mission. As Fr. Gedeon assumes his new priestly duties, we know his journey of faith, academic achievements, and pastoral experience will make him a valuable addition to the spiritual leadership of the Saint Demetrios Cathedral in Astoria.
