March is International Women’s History Month, and it would only be proper to celebrate it by honoring the women of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. We want to showcase the wonderful women who work for our beloved Archdiocese and its Affiliated Institutions this March to celebrate their contributions and the talents they bring to our Church. This second week we present the resilient women of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese.

Presvytera Melanie DiStefano

Position: Resource Developer at the Center for Family Care of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese

Having earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Youngstown State University, Presvytera Melanie later embarked on a transformative journey of faith and learning at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, where she obtained her Master of Divinity degree in 2003. She and her husband Fr. Joseph DiStefano are the proud parents of Michael Seraphim, whose life experiences have largely inspired the creation of the "Fully Human" ministry, dedicated to supporting families with disabilities. Through their shared experiences and commitment to faith and inclusion, they strive to encourage individuals and families facing similar challenges.

What is the role of faith in my life?

My faith in Christ informs every aspect of my life. Though I often fall short, I try to serve the Lord and His people honestly and sincerely. Whether I do so by loving and nurturing my family or using my gifts for the good of those in my parish and in our broader community, I seek to heed the liturgical call to, “commit ourselves and one another and our whole lives to Christ our God.” This aim naturally extends to the ministry entrusted to me at the Center for Family Care, a responsibility I consider to be an honor and a gift.
