Office of Education Holds Annual Staff Development Seminar November 6

New York, NY – The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese District Office of Education will hold its Annual Staff-Development Seminar for teachers serving in the community day and afternoon schools of the District on Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at St. Demetrios High School, Astoria, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Held under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America and in collaboration with the faculty of St. John’s University/School of Education, the Office of Education has designed an array of workshops and presentations that will enhance teaching skills needed to help young students achieve higher learning standards. In addition to St. John’s University, distinguished educators from other schools including Queens College and Manhattanville College will conduct workshops.

The workshops cover all areas of study and include all grades (Pre-K to high school). One workshop, “How to Incorporate Culture into the Foreign Language Classroom”, will be devoted to the teaching of Greek Culture, conducted by Dr. Jacqueline Davis of Queens College.

The principals of the parochial day schools in New York City have designated Election Day (Nov. 6) as in-service teacher training day, therefore all parochial schools will be closed. For further information, or to confirm your attendance, please contact the Direct Archdiocesan District Office of Education at (212) 570-3554.
