THE AKATHIST SERVICE BOOK
The Akathist Hymn is a liturgical book in English and Greek that is used on the first five Fridays of Great Lent. The hymn is a spiritual poem singing praises directly to the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary.
During the 7th century, the Orthodox community in Constantinople asked the Theotokos to save them from an invasion, and a hurricane was sent to repel the invaders. The faithful sang salutations to her all night, which is why the writing of this service is in her honor.
HOLY WEEK THROUGH EASTER SERVICE BOOK
This liturgical book, written in English and Greek, is used during services the week before Pascha.
Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday and continues with the Bridegroom service, the Last Supper, His Crucifixion, and Resurrection. This week brings into existence the life-giving events of our faith, where we follow Christ and participate in His Death and Resurrection.
