Holy Trinity Cathedral Telemarathon November 5 to Support Broadcast of Divine Liturgy in North America

New York, NY- Archbishop Demetrios of America, Father Robert Stephanopoulos, Dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral, Senator Paul S. Sarbanes, Consul General of Greece Catherine Boura, Consul General of Cyprus Martha Mavrommatis, George Stephanopoulos of ABC TV; Thalia Assuras of CBS TV; Alexis Christoforous of WCBS TV; Ernie Anastos and Nick Gregory of FOX 5 TV and Sophia Hall of WCBS Radio are among the many supporters who will be participating in the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity TELEMARATHON set for Sunday, November 5 throughout North America.

Through the generosity of Demetrios Kastanas of National Greek Television (Time Warner Digital Channel 509), a ten-hour TELETHON will be held on November 5, 2006 emanating from the NGTV studios in Astoria, NY, from 2:00 p.m.to Midnight. ANTENNA North America, through the good offices of Nikolaos Tziotis, will join the Telethon for five hours, from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. that afternoon. All proceeds will be earmarked for the communications ministry of Holy Trinity Cathedral.

On February 3, 2002, the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity achieved another milestone in its 114 year history, nationwide live television and Internet broadcast every Sunday and holidays, Easter and Christmas, and special events including broadcast of the funeral of Archbishop Iakovos throughout the world. The Divine Liturgy is broadcast live from Holy Trinity Cathedral every Sunday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 12 Noon on ANTENNA SATELLITE, and National Greek Television (NGTV) on Time Warner Digital Channel 509 in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island and Northern New Jersey.

The broadcast has been an opportunity to minister to hundreds of thousands of Orthodox faithful who, for good reason, are unable to attend Church services -the elderly, the disabled, the homebound, students away from home. However, the broadcast is also seen as a vehicle to enhance the participation of the faithful in their local communities.

The Liturgy and special services of Lent, Holy Week and major Feast Days are also broadcast throughout the year on the Internet at: www.thecathedral.goarch.org or the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America website at live.goarch.org.
