New York - His Emminence Archbishop Spyridon today announced the appointment of Dr. Andreas Zachariou as director of Hellenic Studies at St. Basil Academy in Garrison, N.Y., effective immediately.

Zachariou had previously served as supervising principal at St. Demetrios Greek American Schools in Astoria since 1988. He also was assistant director of the Archdiocese Office of Education from 1981-88.

He holds a Ph.D. in international-intercultural education development from Florida State University and also has lectured widely and written articles in several publications.
