Direct Archdiocesan District Annual Staff Development Seminar November 8

New York, NY: The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Greek Education Department will sponsor the annual Archdiocesan District Staff Development Seminar, Tuesday, November 8th at St. Demetrios High School, Astoria, NY, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Held under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America, the Seminar aims at offering the best in-service training for teachers serving the Day Schools and Afternoon Greek Schools of the Direct Archdiocesan District and including the entire tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

The Seminar includes a variety of workshops that cover the whole spectrum of the English Curriculum. The workshops will cover areas such as: literacy in primary grades; integrating technology in the curriculum; the science lab; use of myths, legends, and folk tales to enhance social studies; ADD & ADHD disorders; classroom management and bullying prevention; and the new State tests in ELA and Math.

The Greek teachers will have the opportunity to attend four presentations covering the Greek studies curriculum and participate in a discussion overseen by Dr.Ioannis Efthymiopoulos, Director of the Department of Greek Education.

The luncheon program will include a presentation by Polexeni Maouris Hillier, associate director of the St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine, St. Augustine, FL. She will speak on "Honoring the Memory of our Forefathers: Greek Pilgrims Arrive in America 1768." Archbishop Demetrios will offer closing remarks.
