Archdiocese of America Brings Video Ministry to Internet

NEW YORK - As part of a continuing effort to enhance its Internet ministry, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America last week introduced Church-related videos through its World Wide Web site (www.goarch.org). The full-length programs are produced by Greek Orthodox Telecommunications (GOTelecom).

Titles currently available include:

  • The Enthronement Ceremony of His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew
  • A Light Still Bright: The Ecumenical Patriarchate (1991 Emmy Award Winner)
  • The Realization of a Dream: The Restoration of the Patriarchal Church of St. George
  • Iakovos: A Legacy (1996 Emmy Award Winner)
  • 1997 Easter Message of Archbishop Spyridon of America
  • 1997 Easter Message of His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew

All videos will play ion Internet modem connections of 28.8 and faster. Others planned for release include GOTelecom' three-part series on Orthodox Church history.

The Archdiocese began integrating audio and video into its web site in July 1996 and was the only Orthodox Jurisdiction in the world to broadcast Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew's and Archbishop Spyridon's Easter video messages.

The Archdiocese's site has received more than 2 million visits since Archbishop Spyridon's enthronement in September, making it one of the most-visited Orthodox web sites on the Internet.
