Archdiocesan Department of Education to Hold Staff Development Seminar

New York, NY - The Archdiocesan Office of Education in conjunction with the New York State Private School Facilitator’s Office will hold a Staff Development Seminar on Friday, October 13, 2000 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at The School of the Metamorphosis, 98 – 07 38th Avenue, Corona, NY.

His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios will offer greetings and opening remarks at the seminar sponsored by the Department of the Education of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese.

The Seminar aims to train parochial day and afternoon school teachers for English as well as Greek programs. The seminar will offer will six workshops for teachers of English programs and one for Greek teachers of the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT).

Education counselor Manolis Vasilakis from the Greek National Ministry of Education, will be the seminar’s main speaker. Mr. Vasilakis has been particularly involved in the teaching of Greek as a second language and is the leading author of the book series “Μαθαίνω Ελληνικά (Matheno Ellinika),” which is widely used by community schools. Mr. Vasilakis is slated to give a demonstrative lesson based on his books. In addition, he will discuss how to incorporate songs in teaching the Greek language.

The program will start with registration at 8:30 a.m. followed by greetings at 9:30 a.m. All workshops will start at 10:00 a.m. and finish by 3:30 p.m. Lunch will be served at 12:30 a.m. –1:30 p.m.
