Archbishop Elpidophoros Presides Over Divine Liturgy on Meat-Fare Sunday at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral Washington, D.C.

Today, Sunday, March 10, 2024, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America celebrated Meat-Fare Sunday presiding over the Divine Liturgy at Saint Sophia "The Holy Wisdom of God" Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

"On this Sunday, when we bid farewell to some of life’s pleasures, the Lord points us to the way of true and lasting happiness. Our eternal happiness is to be found in our loving and compassionate service to others. Because it shows us how we take the effects of Holy Communion – the Body and Blood of Christ that we receive in the Divine Liturgy – and mirror this closeness and proximity to Christ in the world outside the Liturgy" remarked Archbishop Elpidophoros in his Homily.

After the Divine Liturgy, on behalf of the Saint Sophia Cathedral, Parish Council President Janice Calomiris presented His Eminence with a donation of $10,000 to Hellenic College Holy Cross for the purchase of the new cross reliquary.
