Archbishop Elpidophoros, Clergy Break Ground for New Expansion Project at Church of Holy Resurrection in Brookville

On Sunday, May 8, 2022, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Resurrection in Brookville, New York. Afterward, he was joined by Proistamenos Protopresbyter Panteleimon Papadopoulos, former presiding priest Protopresbyter Andreas Vithoulkas, and Parish Council President Stephanie Clark for the groundbreaking of the Church’s new expansion project.

In his remarks, the Archbishop stated that, “Breaking ground is more than a symbolic act. It is a step of deep belief and a sign of hope for a better future. Especially in this centennial year of our Sacred Archdiocese, your act of faith today bodes well for the next one hundred years of our Church in America!”

The expansion project was approved by the parish’s General Assembly in Spring 2018 in order to meet the needs of its expanding community, which currently comprises 460 families. The church, located in the Direct Archdiocesan District, received approval for the project by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America earlier this year, and Sunday’s groundbreaking marked the beginning of construction toward an athletic center, four new classrooms for Greek and religious education, and an expanded fellowship hall.
