Archbishop Elpidophoros Appoints Fr. Vasileios Tsourlis as the President of the Higher Council for Greek Education

His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America has appointed Fr. Vasileios Tsourlis as the president of the Higher Council for Greek Education, succeeding  Mrs. Athena Kromidas who served for many years.

Born and raised in Germany, Fr. Vasileios was ordained in Greece in September 2010. Coming to the United States after his ordination, he served as an assistant priest at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Tarpon Springs and then as Proistamenos at St. George Church in New Port Richey, FL and as Dean of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Charlotte, NC.  He also held the position of Vicar in the Metropolis of Atlanta. 

Fr. Vasileios has served as the Dean of St. Demetrios Cathedral & St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Astoria, where he also taught  Theology at St. Demetrios Day School.

Fr. studied Computer Information & Technology in Germany and Theology in Greece. He holds a master’s degree in theology and is a Ph.D. candidate in Theology at the Aristotelian University of Thessaaloniki. Fr. Vasileios has participated as a speaker in multiple International Theological Conferences in Greece and other countries. He has contributed to numerous Theological research programs at the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki and actively participated in the educational work of the Theology Department. Fr. Vasileios specializes in Patristic Theology, Orthodox Spirituality, and the reception of the Old and New Testament. He is also the author of the book Ο Άγιος Ισαάκ ο Σύρος και η Ορθόδοξη Πνευματικότητα. Σπουδή στο μυστήριο της Μετάνοιας και της Προσευχής. Εκδόσεις Μπαρμπουνάκη, Θεσσαλονίκη 2020.

Father and Presvytera Maria, a nurse and teacher, have two children Konstantinos and Eleni.
