Archbishop Demetrios Welcomes President Clinton's Visit To Greece and Turkey

New York, NY – Today, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate said he is looking forward to the upcoming visit of President William Jefferson Clinton to Greece and Turkey.

Archbishop Demetrios will be a member of the official Patriarchal welcome of the President to the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople on Nov. 17th for his meeting with His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. As an official guest of the government of Greece, His Eminence will attend the State Dinner for President Clinton in Athens on November 19th.

In his statement on the visit of President Clinton to Greece, Archbishop Demetrios said: “I am aware of the difficulties related to the visit to Greece, but I am convinced that it may be very beneficial for the promotion of solutions to the various problems of the area for all the countries involved.

The Greek American community, in particular, is fervently praying for the full success of President Clinton’s trip to Greece, seeing it as an opportunity for enhancing the positive and warm relationship between Greece and America.”
