Archbishop Demetrios to Receive Honorary Doctorate

New York, NY - His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, will receive an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey on Sunday, October 31st at 3:00 p.m.

The Rev. Dr. Demetrios Constantelos, Scholar in Residence and Charles Cooper Townsend Distinguished Professor of History and Religious Studies Emeritus, has announced that His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios will be the guest of honor for the annual symposium of the Hellenic Heritage Foundation at Richard Stockton College and the Friends of Hellenic Studies at Stockton. The symposium includes a lecture, dinner and musical program.

Dr. Vera King Farris, Stockton Vice President and a great supporter of Greek Studies at the College, will bestow the honorary degree on His Eminence. Dr. James C. Wright, Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology at Bryn Mawr, will present an illustrated lecture on “Our Classical Past and Present: A Personal Account.”

The musical portion of the program will feature the Kassiani Chorus of South Jersey and a Greek dance group. For further information contact the Office of College Development at (609) 652-4528.
