New York, NY – At the invitation of His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America will participate in the historic visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the Ecumenical Patriarchate on November 29 – December 1, 2006 in Istanbul, Turkey.
Pope Benedict XVI is visiting the Ecumenical Patriarchate at the invitation of His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, the spiritual leader of over 250 million Orthodox Faithful world-wide. Pope Benedict will spend an entire day, November 30 at the Patriarchate celebrating the feast day of St. Andrew the Apostle, who traveled across Asia Minor and is considered the Patron Saint of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, the Byzantine name for present-day Istanbul.
