New York, NY – His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, welcomed a delegation of the American Jewish Committee to the Archdiocese on Tuesday, October 16th.

In a gesture of support and concern for the destruction of St. Nicholas Church, which was destroyed in the September 11th terror attack, Martin Kaplan, Chair of the AJC Commission on Interreligious Affairs, delivered to Archbishop Demetrios a donation of $10,000 from AJC relief funds. “We are proud”, he said,” to join with the Greek Orthodox Community in rebuilding St. Nicholas Church.”

In accepting the donation, Archbishop Demetrios said, “This gesture is a treasure, a movement of the heart.”

The American Jewish Committee has a longstanding relationship with the Greek Orthodox Church and has long spearheaded the Jewish voice in relationships with other faith groups.
