“How-to” Green Your Parish-Episode 36: St. Demetrios Green Team—Parkville, MD

The most recent installment of the “How-to” Green Your Parish video series is now featured on the GOA YouTube channel!

In this episode, the Saint Demetrios Green Team from Baltimore, MD shares how their efforts have quickly expanded beyond the parish level. From hosting environmental educational movie nights and family friendly activities that stimulate discussion on how to celebrate and care for God’s creation, partnering with local faith-based organizations, and providing weekly articles in their Sunday bulletin to provide parishioners with helpful environmental tips.

Additionally, the Green Team has expanded their efforts to the community. Green Team president, Mary Triandafilou shares the leadership role Saint Demetrios has taken to educate and inform their community and neighbors on best ecological practices. These include hosting garden workshops and tours, a plant swap, rain barrel workshops, recycling and composting workshops, and holding information tables at their festival and other events.

The Department of Inter-Orthodox, Ecumenical & Interfaith Relations is now taking videos highlighting the ways in which parishes across the country are responding to the call to be stewards of creation.

These “how-to” videos are the next phase of the Greening the Parish initiatives.

The videos highlight different environmental practices that are simple and practical for purposes of implementing in our homes, parishes and communities, while also offering insightful and informative educational recommendations.

All the videos can be found on the Greening the Parish Resource Page, along with many other helpful tools: greenparish.goarch.org/
