Blessing of Animals in North Royalton—Feast of St. Mammas

On Saturday, September 2nd, St. Paul GOC of North Royalton, OH offered the 2nd Annual St. Mammas Pet Blessing. (St. Mammas feast fell on the actual day of the blessing this year.) He was a child saint who was orphaned because his parents were killed for their faith. St. Mammas was protected and cared by wild animals. Thus, he is looked upon as a protector of all animals. Fr. Costas Keares offered petitions for the wellbeing of all the parishioners and friends who gathered for this event. He also sprinkled each pet with Holy Water, asking God’s protection upon each animal. The event was well attended and everyone was appreciative.
