Ordination of Rev. Father Gabriel Cupsa by Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco - Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America

The faithful from Saint Basil Greek Orthodox Church in Stockton, CA witnessed the ordination of Gabriel Cupsa to the Holy Diaconate by His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco, on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Also participating in the service were His Eminence Metropolitan Tarasios of Rhodopolis; His Grace Bishop Ioannis of Phocaea, Metropolis Chancellor; Rev. Father James Retelas from Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Sacramento, CA; Rev. Fr. Panagiotis Sotiras from St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church, Stockton, CA; Rev. Father Ion Coman from St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA; Rev. Father Cornel Avramescu from Saint Mary Romanian Church Anaheim, CA; Rev. Father Constantin Lapustea from Holy Cross Romanian Church San Jose, CA; Rev. Archdeacon Justin Bosl from Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church in Castro Valley, CA; and Rev. Deacon Nicolae Lapustea from Holy Cross Romanian Church San Jose, CA.

The following day, Sunday, March 10, 2024, the faithful from Saint Basil Greek Orthodox Church in Stockton, CA witnessed the ordination of Deacon Gabriel Cupsa to the Holy Priesthood by His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco. Also participating in the service were His Grace Bishop Ioannis of Phocaea; Rev. Father Panagiotis Sotiras; Rev. Fr. Marin State, Pastor Emeritus at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Concord, CA; and Rev. Archdeacon Justin Bosl from Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church in Castro Valley, CA. Father Gabriel will serve as the Assistant Priest at Saint Basil Greek Orthodox Church in Stockton, CA.

He graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He is currently enrolled in the Master of Theology program at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, MA. His thesis is entitled “The Sacrament of Confession. The liturgical and pastoral dimension of the penitential act in the Orthodox Tradition.”

Father Gabriel is married to Presvytera Iulia-Nicoleta.
