    April 2024 St. Michael's Home Construction Updates

    Apart from landscaping and the final layer of roadway asphalt, the exterior of the structure has been completely transformed with new windows, doors, brickwork, stuccoing, roofing, heating/ac units, etc. and the entire project is just over 2/3 complete. Focus is now on the interior and since all spaces have been partitioned, installation of HVAC, electrical work and plumbing continues and needs close to $2,000,000 to be completed. Once all those systems are installed, sheetrock will go up. While those materials have been purchased and are on-site, another $2,000,000 is needed to complete that major stage of construction.

    The 33rd Annual Leadership 100 Conference, which took place February 29-March 3, 2024, at The Ritz-Carlton, Naples in Naples, Florida, concluded with the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy officiated by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, assisted by His Eminence Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh, His Grace Bishop Sevastianos of Zela, National Chancellor of the Archdiocese V. Rev. Fr. Nektarios Papazafiropoulos and parish priest Fr. Demetrios J. Mott at St. Katherine Church in Naples, Florida on Sunday, March 3. The conference, which saw record attendance of 725 members and guests, commemorated the 40th Anniversary of the Archbishop Iakovos Leadership 100 Fund, according to Demetrios G. Logothetis, Chairman.

    AHEPA District 6 Family Holds its Inaugural Hellenic History Tournament

    FLUSHING, NY – History was made on February 17, 2024, as the Inaugural Hellenic History Tournament (HHT) was held at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Flushing, NY. Co-chairs Dean Moskos, Past District 6 AHEPA Governor, and Lainie Damaskos-Christou, District 6 Daughters of Penelope Governor, were successful in their collaborative effort to bring this regional tournament within the AHEPA Family for the first time to the Empire State. Many chapters and individual donors throughout the district helped sponsor the teams and raised the funds required to award $4,500 in Scholarship award prizes and cover the expenses of this full day’s event that included breakfast and lunch.

    Early Church History: Receiving the Ancient Faith Behind Bars

    Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church in Meridian, Idaho, is quickly becoming a model parish for Orthodox prison ministry. Among the 200 people that regularly attend services, at least a quarter of their parishioners are involved in prison ministry. “Oh my gosh, the attitude and response of my parish has been fantastic!” says Donna Allee, Prison Ministry Coordinator at Holy Transfiguration. “Even the children and other adults prepare Christmas and Pascha cards for the inmates.”
