    2024 Comprehensive Examinations in Modern Greek Locations June 24, 2024

    It is a great pleasure to announce that this year the Comprehensive Examination in Modern Greek - Checkpoint B - will be administered at 11 Examination centers located in 4 different states (NY, NJ, CT, OH). 310 students from 38 Greek-American Parochial Day and Afternoon schools, 2 New York City public high schools, and 1 Hellenic Charter School are expected to take the Greek Examination on Monday, June 24th, at 1:15p.m.

    New York State Education Department Approves the Comprehensive Examination in Modern Greek as a 4 + 1 World Language Pathway Assessment

    The Department of Greek Education of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is pleased to announce that the World Language Comprehensive in Modern Greek was recently approved by the New York State Education Department to be used as a 4+1 World Language pathway assessment leading to a diploma requirement in New York State.

    More than 200 Educators of the Archdiocese Take Part in Annual Staff Development Seminar

    About 220 educators were registered for the 2017 annual Staff Development Seminar, organized by the DAD Office of Education held at St. Demetrios School in Astoria, NY. The Seminar offered in-service training to teachers who serve in the District’s Greek-American day schools as well as the Greek afternoon/Saturday schools.

    Greek Language Honorees

    Holy Trinity Archdiocesan Cathedral hosted the annual Three Hierarchs and Greek Letters celebration Jan. 28 with students from the area Greek day and afternoon schools who received the Three Hierarchs Award of Excellence for their scores of 98 or above in the Comprehensive Examination in Modern Greek in 2016. Guest speaker was Dr. George P. Liakeas, president of the Hellenic Medical Society of New York.

    Three Hierarchs Excellence Awards 2017

    On Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Direct Archdiocesan District Office of Education commemorated the Feast of the Three Hierarchs and Greek Letters Day. His Eminence Geron Archbishop Demetrios of America handed out certificates to 74 students who successfully passed the Proficiency exam.
