In the first book of Chronicles we are told of the story of how King David, wanting to build the glorious temple for the worship of God, began to assemble the necessary materials.  Although God did not allow him to build the temple, because of the sins of his youth, he nonetheless allowed his David to gather what was necessary for his son Solomon to complete this sacred task.

When the people of Israel had made their offerings and all was in readiness, David acknowledged in his thanksgiving prayer, that my people and I really cannot give you anything, because everything is a gift from you, and we have only given back what is yours already.
