The work of the Bible Society in Greece has a very old history, going back to before the Greek Revolution of 1821. However the Hellenic Bible Society itself formally came into existence as known to day in 1992, when they became separate, as an organization, from the British Bible Society. Since the year 2000, they are a full member of the United Bible Societies, which is made up of 146 national Bible Societies operating in over 200 countries and territories.

For many years now the Hellenic Bible Society has been steadily building a strong partnership with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the American Bible Society. Two results of that partnership, for example, was the Digital Publication of the 1904 Authorized Greek New Testament of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and also the translation of the The Children’s Bible Reader.
