$14,000 for Texas Crisis Support

National Philoptochos & Metropolis of Denver Philoptochos Board Distribute $14,000 for Texas Crisis Support

“To help the poor, the destitute, the hungry, the aged, the sick, the unemployed, the orphaned, the widowed, those with disabilities and the victims of disasters…”

New York, NY – Texas continues to deal with the aftereffects from the devastating winter storms and for some, recovery could take months. The citizens in Texas are suffering greatly due to the freezing temperatures, loss of power, burst pipes, and so forth. The Texas community is in great need, especially the most vulnerable, the elderly, the homeless, and those with limited access to resources.

The National Philoptochos Executive Board, together with the Metropolis of Denver Philoptochos Board will disburse a total of $14,000 to four foodbanks which have the greatest outreach and serve the greatest number of people, $2,500 each from the National Philoptochos Emergency Fund, and an additional $1,000 each from the Metropolis of Denver Philoptochos. The National Philoptochos Emergency Fund arose in response to the 2007 natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina. These funds allow National Philoptochos to provide immediate assistance on the ground during times of disasters.

The following Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth area foodbanks will each receive donations totaling $3,500:

  • Houston Food Bank, Houston
  • Emergency Aid Coalition, Houston
  • Tarrant Area Food Bank, Fort Worth
  • Community Food Bank, Fort Worth

These funds will go to directly assist the most vulnerable with food and water, which is most needed at this time.
