Philoptochos Gives Hope to Tornado Victims
In an immediate first response to the devastating tornadoes, National Philoptochos donates $25,000 to Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund. Prayers are needed for the communities of six to eight states that have had havoc wreaked upon them by the tornadoes of Friday night, December 10, 2021. It is believed that the most violent tornado track spanned more than 200 miles, most of which was in the Commonwealth (i.e., State) of Kentucky, which is within the Metropolis of Detroit.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear stated that it is "the most devastating, most deadly tornado event in Kentucky's history." The death toll continues to rise, and the destruction is unimaginable. First responders, including fire, paramedics, and police, instead of going from door to door, are going from rubble to rubble, in their search for survivors. According to the Governor's update, a significant death toll is expected.
There have been federal, state, and local level responses to address this disaster, including those from the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Coordinated aid is being deployed by Kentucky in the form of food, housing/shelter, water, fuel, power, utilities, and communication services, for which funding is needed.
After conducting thorough research to vet an organization to receive the funds, the National Philoptochos Humanitarian Relief Committee recommended that a donation of $25,000 be made as an immediate response, to Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund, which was established by Governor Andy Beshear. The National Philoptochos Executive Board approved the $25,000 disbursement on Monday, December 13, 2021. These funds will go directly to help the victims of Western Kentucky who have been so severely impacted by this tragedy.
