New York City Mayor Eric Adams Hosts Reception at Gracie Mansion for Greek Independence Day

New York – Yesterday, April 9, 2024, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and esteemed Greek Americans from New York, attended a reception, hosted by New York City Mayor Eric Adams at Gracie Mansion celebrating Greek Heritage. The annual event coincides with the New York City Greek Independence Day parade which will take place on Sunday, April 14 on 5th Avenue.   

In his invocation and remarks, Archbishop Elpidophoros offered his gratitude and appreciation to Mayor Adams for recognizing this important day, “The Hellenes of Twenty Five Hundred Years ago brought forth the concept of Democracy to the world, and ever since, women and men of good courage and integrity have endeavored to perfect the democratic model of Athens, refining and ever-expanding the circle of inclusion that a true Democracy demands. Today, we join hands with you to make of our City a better place for all its citizens, and we thank you for your service to this end. And in those you will honor, you honor every Greek of New York! We are by your side, Your Honor, in the thick of creating a more democratic city and world. Long live – Ζήτω – our beloved New York City! Ζήτω τὸ Ἑλληνικὸ Ἔθνος!"

The Mayor also presented Proclamations to Greek Americans who have made significant contributions to New York City: Stella Kokolis, Dimitrios Panagos, Georgea Kontzamanis and Fr. Vailios Louros.
