Greek Language Framework Conference Hosted by the Department of Greek Education

Greek Language Framework Conference Hosted by the

Department of Greek Education

On Saturday April 30, 2022, the Department of Greek Education held its first in person conference after COVID. Fr. Panteleimon Papadopoulos, and his parish the Church of the Holy Resurrection in Brookville, Long Island, graciously hosted the seminar.

The conference was held to introduce the new Greek Language Framework that was piloted by the Director Dr. Anastasios Koularmanis and Mrs. Athina Kromidas the President of the High Council for Greek Education. The Democritus University of Thrace was contracted to author the project. This project would not have been possible if not for the generosity of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

During the conference, the committee that developed this framework, the Vice-Rector of the University,Dr. Zoe Gavriilidou and Dr. Maria Mitsiaki. explained the various grades and levels of the curriculum. Those that were present were able to witness how to implement the curriculum into a lesson during an exercise which they participated in.

This is the first time that such a framework/curriculum was ever published at the GOARCH. This framework is meant to be a guide for all educators teaching Greek as a Heritage Language. The anticipated curriculum was well received by all those that were present and those that were able to attend the conference virtually.

Our deepest gratitude to Fr. Panteleimon Papadopoulos Dean of the Church of the Holy Resurrection in Brookville, Long Island, the School Board President Georgia Amigdalos and the Principal of the Greek School Mrs. Fotini Takvorian.

For any further information regarding the curriculum please contact Mr. Anastasios Koularmanis at [email protected]
