5th Annual Greek Education Conference

MODERN METHODS AND TECHNIQUES OF TEACHING THE GREEK LANGUAGE

On behalf of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, the Department of Greek Education, and The High Council for Greek Education, we extend a cordial invitation to our upcoming in-person annual Greek Education conference on Tuesday, November 7th, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm EST. This event will be graciously hosted by the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church community at 30-03 30th Drive, Astoria, NY 11102, and presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros.

Presenters:

Dr. Eleni Griva, Vice-rector for Internationalization & Lifelong Learning, Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Western Macedonia – Greece

Dr. Eleni Korosidou, Adjunct Lecturer and Postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Primary Education, University of Western Macedonia-Greece & Scientific Collaborator of the Institute of Greek Language ‘TEMENUS’ and of the Center for Lifelong Learning in the same university.

The objective of this year’s educational conference is straightforward: to introduce contemporary teaching methods for the culturally rich Greek language. Here’s a glimpse of what will be covered during the conference.

1. Skills Development: In the initial phase, participants will delve into the principles that foster an engaging and technology-savvy environment for language learning. We cover spoken and written language skills, along with intercultural competence. We'll explore linguistic, communicative, intercultural, creative, and digital exercises that enrich the learning experience.

2. Lesson Planning: Teachers will craft effective lesson plans for teaching Greek. We provide concrete examples of plan design, complete with various activities tailored to the Greek language.

3. Collaborative Learning: Teachers will have the opportunity to work together in groups. designing lesson plans.

The conference will conclude with a reflective Q & A discussion.
