Bishop Ierotheos of Eukarpia Falls Asleep in the Lord

Bishop Ierotheos of Eukarpia Falls Asleep in the Lord

His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, accompanied by the chancellor of the Archdiocese, V. Rev. Archimandrite Nektarios Papazafiropoulos, made a pilgrimage to the Sacred Patriarchal and Stavropegial Monastery of St. Irene Chrysovalantou to offer memorial prayers for the repose of the soul of its late Abbot, Bishop Ierotheos of Eukarpia, who fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, March 11, 2024.

The Archbishop stated, “It was with deep sadness that I learned of the repose of my esteemed brother, Bishop Ierotheos, of Eukarpia. I knew him from my years of ministry at the Phanar, where I bore witness to his maturation as a clergyman within the embrace of the Mother Church of Constantinople. It was the Lord’s will for us both to serve the Sacred Center of Orthodoxy in America, yet in His inexplicable divine will, He called His Grace to Him suddenly and prematurely. With the permission and blessing of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, I prayed the trisagion for the repose of his soul before the altar of the Patriarchal and Stavropegial Monastery, where my late brother served with great devotion. I extend my sincere condolences to the orphaned brotherhood of the Monastery as well as its benefactors, supporters, and all those who further its mission.”
