Late-Year Ordinations Abound

Following a calendar year 2017 with no ordinations within the Metropolis of Pittsburgh,  His Eminence has ordained a number of young men to serve our local communities. The first half of the year saw the ordination to the priesthood of Fr. Christopher (Pres. Sophia) Zaferes, serving in Columbus.

In late August His Eminence ordained Aaron (Kyriaka) Gilbert to the Deaconate to serve at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Camp Hill, and in early December ordained him to the Holy Priesthood (photo at right). Fr. Aaron’s father, the late Fr. Matthew Gilbert, originally hailed from the Eastern region of our Metropolis, and Pres. Kyriaka’s family is from the York-Lancaster area.

In October His Eminence ordained Konstantinos (Evangelia) Koutroubas to the Deaconate to serve at Sts. Constantine & Helen in Reading (photo below). Dn. Konstantinos has been the pastoral assistant to Fr. Pappalas for a few years now, and originally hails from Philadelphia. Pres. Evangelia is the daughter of Fr. Nicholas & Pres. Irene Palis.

At the end of December, His Eminence will ordain Dn. Thomas (Dssa. Molly) Drenen to the Holy Priestood, and he will continue to serve the Sts. Constantine & Helen Cathedral community in Cleveland Heights. His ordination to the deaconate was the last ordination before 2018, taking place in October 2016 in Cleveland.
