Sunday of Orthodoxy at Saint Sophia Cathedral

Sunday of Orthodoxy at Saint Sophia Cathedral

Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, DC celebrated the Sunday of Orthodoxy with school children each carrying an icon, most of them, an icon of their patron saint. The Cathedral, however, did something special this year for the first time ever, adding to the procession their past and present altar boys. More than 50 altar boys and men participated in the procession of icons around the church. The ages of the altar boys/men ranged from 12 to the late 80s, possibly early 90s. In at least one case there were three generations of altar boys represented from one family.
The Cathedral is led by the presiding priest, Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Father Steven Zorzos, assistant priest, Presbyter Panayiotis Steele and parish council president Cassandra Tsintolas Johnson.
