Metropolis of Pittsburgh Hosts 2nd Annual YAL Conference

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Savas, the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh hosted their second annual YAL Conference in Cleveland, OH October 7-9, 2022. Welcoming over 300 young adults from across the country, they focused on the theme CHOSEN: "'You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go bear fruit - fruit that will last - and so that whatever you ask in my name, the Father will give you.' John 15:16." The theme worked to show participants what it means to be chosen and how as young adults, they can bear fruit within their work, relationships, hobbies, etc. Keynote speaker was Christy Buck, LBSW, Executive Director and Founder of be nice.

On Friday, participants were welcomed to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with full museum access and a dance. Saturday contained Liturgical services, spiritual speakers and workshops, a glendi, and a unique service project. Partnering with Forget-Me-Not Baskets, participants assembled over 12,000 items and created 200 Early Loss Bags. This organization "provides items of comfort, peace and remembrance to families who have experienced a loss during pregnancy, birth or soon after." With October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss awareness month, participants were moved by the work they were able to do. Sunday began with a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy and address with His Eminence Metropolitan Savas, discussion groups and wrapped up with a comedy show by Gus Constantellis. Special thanks to His Eminence Metropolitan Savas, Co-Chairs Maive Bellios and Lucas Carrol, the entire Executive Committee and all those who supported this event.
