Metropolis of Pittsburgh Day of Service March 12-13

This year, parishes in the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh are encouraged to participate in a Metropolis-wide day of Service which will take place either March 12 or 13, depending on what works best for each parish.

The purpose of this event is to encourage everyone to focus on the importance of helping those in need, especially during the Lenten Season. Churches can work in-house and/or with local non-profits and spend their day volunteering.

Not sure what to do? Below are some possible ideas. Please be sure to share photos and stories with us after your events.

  • Create and distribute hygene kits to the homeless
  • Pick up trash around your church or neighborhood
  • Write cards or make phone calls to parish shut-ins
  • Bake cookies for health care workers
  • Craft fleece tie blankets for those in need
  • "Plant" fake flowers at your local cemetery
  • Clean liturgical items and icons at your church
  • Use chalk to write uplifting messages in your parking lot
  • Write a letter to a priest or teacher to share what they mean to you
  • Shovel the snow for a neighbor
