Speaker Bios for Webinar #3 - Communities at Work

Karenna Gore is the founder and director of the Center for Earth Ethics (CEE) at Union Theological Seminary. The Center for Earth Ethics bridges the worlds of religion, academia, policy and culture to discern and pursue the changes that are necessary to stop ecological destruction and create a society that values the long-term health of the whole. 

The Rev. Fletcher Harper is GreenFaith’s Executive Director. A pioneer of the global religious environmental movement, he helps spearhead the faith-based fossil fuel divestment movement, organizes faith turnouts at major climate mobilizations, and is a co-founder of Shine, an international campaign that supports women and community-led renewable energy access initiatives in Africa and India. He is the author of GreenFaith: Mobilizing God’s People to Protect the Earth.

Patrick Carolan is a Catholic activist, organizer, writer and speaker. He currently serves as the Director of Catholic Outreach for Vote Common Good. Previously he was the Executive Director of the Franciscan Action Network and co-founded the Global Catholic Climate Movement. In 2015 he was honored by the Obama White House for his work on faith and climate. He writes regularly for Franciscan Media’s St Anthony’s Messenger and National Catholic Reporter. He and his wife Stella have been foster parents and in addition to having two biological children they have adopted two children. 

Martin Palmer was the Secretary General of the Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC) until June 2019. ARC was founded with HRH Prince Philip in 1995 to help faiths develop environmental and conservation projects based on their own beliefs and practices. He is the author and editor of more than 20 books on religious and environmental topics. He has translated many ancient Chinese texts, is a regular contributor to the BBC, and is a lay preacher in the Church of England. He has been working with the faiths on their investment programmes since 2001 and helped found the International Interfaith Investment Group (3iG) in 2005.
