COMMUNIQUE

Archdiocesan District

NEW YORK, NY—Friday, March 4,, 2022 - As we approach the beginning of Great and Holy Lent and as it is the tradition of our Holy Church, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America has announced that at 7:00pm on the evening of each Sunday during the sacred and holy Lenten period, contrition vespers services will be celebrated in parishes throughout the Archdiocesan District. This vespers service is one which assists us in focusing on the virtues of the Lenten period – prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. The Archbishop will preside over several of the services, and at his invitation, their Graces, Bishop Apostolos of Medeia and Bishop Athenagoras of Nazianzos will serve in His Eminence’s absence.

The Archbishop has also invited the Society of Byzantine Cantors, which is being formed within the Archdiocesan District, to chant the beautiful and spiritually meaningful hymns of these Divine Services.

All the faithful are encouraged to attend these spiritual and uplifting services.
