Building a Youth Ministry Schedule

Need help creating a yearly youth ministry schedule?

Building a youth ministry calendar involved more than just throwing a couple of events together. Youth workers have an opportunity to truly help youth transform and connect them to the Body of Christ. Here are some ideas for creating a transformative and exciting youth ministry experience.

Before you build a youth ministry calendar, here are a few suggestions:

  • Meet with your parish priest to discuss the goals/objectives of the youth ministry group. This will help to build good, clear communication between the priest and youth worker.
  • Meet with the parish priest and leaders of the other parish ministries to prevent conflicting events. This will help raise awareness and support for the youth groups.
  • Meet with the parents and youth of the youth group in order to gather ideas and suggestions about events/activities. This will also help raise awareness and support from the parents.
  • Meet with other youth workers in your area (if possible) to talk about events at other parishes. This will help cultivate great relationships between communities, especially among the youth groups.

Here is a sample of a parish youth group calendar. Ideas are not limited to those listed. This is simply an example of what a parish youth group can plan according to seasons, holidays, and the Liturgical calendar.

  • Youth Rally/Youth Ministries Kick Off: Plan an event for parents and youth to attend. Take that opportunity to present the calendar/activities for the year. Also, recruit parents to volunteer for the year’s activities.
  • Monthly Meetings/Gatherings: For older youth groups, this might be an administrative meeting of officers. The meeting can be followed by an activity and food. For younger groups, this might entail a gather of the children to learn, worship, and play.
