Archiepiscopal Encyclical for AHEPA Sunday, May 20, 2018
With joy and gratitude, the parishes of our Holy Archdiocese are asked to
commemorate AHEPA Sunday and to recognize the service offered by the
members of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association and
the organizations of the AHEPA family. Each year we designate a Sunday in
May for this purpose, primarily to honor the significant work and offering
that is being made by AHEPA members in our parishes, communities, nation,
and around the world. It is also an annual recognition of a long and
cherished relationship between AHEPA and the Greek Orthodox Church in
America.

On this fourth Sunday after the Great and Holy Feast of Pascha, we
commemorate the healing of the paralytic by our Lord Jesus Christ. This
Sunday has also been designated in 2011 as our annual recognition of the
American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association. The connection of
the Sunday of the Paralytic and AHEPA Sunday is very appropriate, as it

As Greek Orthodox Christians our sacred responsibility is to love God with
all our heart and to love our neighbor, and one of the manifold ways in
which we express our love to God and to our neighbor is through our own
dedication as a community of faith to the promotion of education, service
to others, and care for those in need. It is in this regard that we are
appreciative of the work of the AHEPA, since it serves in its capacity the
same laudable goals.
