NEW YORK – The 2017 Comprehensive Examination in Modern Greek administered by the Direct Archdiocesan District Office of Education will take place Monday, June 19, from 1:15 - 4:15 p.m.

Approximately 440 public and nonpublic school students will be taking the Examination this year at 16 designated test sites. The majority of students come from the New York area, while a number of students come from CT, NJ, MO, and VA.

This year, the Archdiocesan District Office of Education collaborated with the Literacy and Language Assessments Office of the NYC Department of Education. The Comprehensive Examination in Modern Greek is “a locally developed foreign language examination,” aligned to the Checkpoint B learning standards for Languages Other Than English (LOTE) as described in the Syllabus: Modern Languages for Communication of the New York State Education Department. It assesses student proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Modern Greek.

To qualify for the Examination students must be in the eighth grade or higher and have successfully completed three years of studies in the Modern Greek language. Those who pass the Examination may be awarded up to three credits in foreign language studies. In the State of New York, students may qualify for a Regents diploma with advanced designation.
