Letter to the Editor: Memorable Coverage

Editor,

The page on Church History in the February-March issue of the Orthodox Observer with the riveting picture of MLK and our beloved Archbishop Iakovos brought me many memories. At that time my brother, the Very Rev. George Bacopulos, was chancellor of the Archdiocese and a close friend and confidant to Iakovos. As it happened, Iakovos had to convince staff members of the importance of this historic visit to Selma, in spite of the possible physical danger to himself.. I well remember my brother’s recollections of the time spent in Selma, the march, and the subsequent “photo-op”, the bravery of our beloved Iakovos will never be forgotten. Thank you for your timely reminder to us all.
