Metropolis of NJ Holds Annual Three Hierarchs/Greek Letters Day Celebrations For the Northern New Jersey and Delaware Valley Regions

Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey Holds Annual Three Hierarchs/Greek Letters Day Celebrations For the Northern New Jersey and Delaware Valley Regions

Westfield, New Jersey – On the weekend of January 21 - 22, 2023 the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey, with the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, began its Annual regional Three Hierarchs/Greek Letters Day Celebrations.

On Saturday the Northern New Jersey Region event taking place at Ss. Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Roseland, New Jersey with over 600 in attendance and on Sunday the Delaware Valley Regional event took place at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church in Broomall, Pennsylvania with almost 300 Orthodox faithful. All those in attendance for these wonderful events enjoyed a beautiful evening as hundreds of children from the area parish Greek Schools displayed their incredible talents and love of the Greek language and Hellenic Culture by offering poems, plays, songs, dialogues and traditional Greek dances.

The Keynote Speaker for the Northern New Jersey Celebration was Mr. Konstantinos Konstantinou, the Consul General of Greece in New York, and for the Delaware Valley Celebration was Mr. Michael Firillas, the Consul General of Cyprus in New York, both offering very moving speeches on the importance of this religious and cultural celebration.

The Chancellor of the Metropolis, the V. Rev. Archimandrite Christoforos Oikonomidis welcomed all these annual events and His Grace Bishop Apostolos of Medeias, expressed the blessings and well wishes of the Archbishop, and offered congratulations to all of the students, the Greek School Teachers/ Principals/ Administrators and all of the parents for their dedicated and faithful work in learning more about their culture and their Orthodox faith.

Special thanks was given to the chairpeople of the events, the Rev. Economos George Khitiri and Mrs. Sophia Logothetis for Northern New Jersey and the Rev. Protopresbyter Christ Kontos, together with Mrs. Angelique Messaris Demetris for the Delaware Valley Celebration. In addition, His Grace on behalf of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, honored Mrs. Rita Fitanidis of the SS. Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Parish for her many years of dedicated service as a Greek School educator to the youth.
