PALOS HILLS, Ill. – The Metropolis Philoptochos held their annual Quilta-thon March 18, at Sts. Constantine & Helen Church in Palos Hills. This was the 16th year for this act of charity.

As in previous years, the objective was to make more than 200 quilts for distribution to various hospitals and Institutions, including Children’s Memorial, Comers, La Rabida, Hope, Crisis Center, Philoxenia House and more, to help children with life threatening diseases and seriously illnesses.

Six years ago, Metropolis Chancellor Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos named and dedicated this annual event the “Maria Pazoles Memorial Quilt-a-thon,” recognizing Maria’s indelible efforts and contributions to this most heart warming and worthwhile project.

The project has been supported in part from our Metropolis and mostly from donations and sponsors of the quilts. Although it is a year long project implemented by the diligent efforts of the Quilt-a-thon Committee, many of the quilts are finished on Quilt-a-thon Day by Philoptochos ladies from the Greater Chicago area. In addition to the over 200 hundred quilts made, 100 fleeces and 100 neck–roll pillows also were produced.
