Archdiocesan Council Jubilant over Announcement of Saint Nicholas, Archbishop Demetrios Expresses Gratitude to Civic Leaders

In the wake of the announcement of the agreement between the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, announced by Governor Andrew Cuomo and Archbishop Demetrios earlier today, the Archdiocesan Council, in its semi-annual meeting in New York City, responded with a jubilant and prolonged standing ovation. The unanimous sense of the Archdiocesan Council was of great joy and gratitude that St. Nicholas Church has finally found its place, after 10 years of waiting, in the new reality of Ground Zero.

Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and Port Authority Announce Agreement on Rebuilding of St. Nicholas

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America announces today an agreement with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey regarding the rebuilding of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which was destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

On this Sunday, the tenth anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, we address you in the faith, love and hope that we share in our Lord Jesus Christ. As we gather in our places of worship on this day, we cannot help but call to mind the dreadful acts of terrorism and the tremendous destruction that shocked the entire world and burdened every heart with pain and sorrow.

Archbishop Demetrios Discusses the Tragedy of September 11 on the National Radio Ministry of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese airing September 22

Ft. Lauderdale, FL - OCN (The Orthodox Christian Network) is pleased to inform its listeners of an addition to this coming Saturday's orignally scheduled program. His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios will be a guest on "Come Receive the Light," this Saturday, September 22. On Wednesday of last week, moments after returning from an Archpastoral visit to what was once the World Trade Center, Archbishop Demetrios spoke candidly about the carnage he saw, the dedication of the city personnel serving so many people and the miracles that were occurring each moment. In addition he offered a Trisagion for the repose of the souls of your servant. Join us to hear his words of comfort and inspiration.

The National Orthodox Christian Radio program, “Come Receive the Light” is aired every Saturday Morning from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM (ESTD), on WLVJ 640 AM in West Palm Beach, Ft.
