A Delegation from Mount Athos visited the Holy See of the Mother Church, in preparation for the visit of His All-Holiness to Mount Athos in the Fall

A delegation from the Holy Monastic Community of Mount Athos visited His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 in order to prepare His All-Holiness’ visit to Mount Athos October 19-22. The delegation was comprised by Monks Nikodimos of Great Lavra monastery, Nikodimos of Agiou Pavlou monastery and Hieromonk Sisoei of Xenophontos monastery.

His All- Holiness will arrive in the Holy Monastery of Xenophontos, the first stop in the Holy Mountain, on Saturday Oct. 19, 2019. The fathers of the Holy Community, the Protos (head) and the heads of the 20 monasteries and their representatives will officially welcome His All-Holiness upon his arrival at the monastery’s small dock. The next day, Sunday Oct. 20, the Ecumenical Patriarch will preside on the Holy Divine Liturgy at the monastery’s main Church (the Katholikon), on the occasion of the 200-year anniversary from the time it was erected.

During his trip, the Ecumenical Patriarch will visit the capital Karyes and venerate the most well-known and important icon of Mount Athos of Panagia “Axion Esti.” He will also visit the Holy Monasteries of Vatopediou, Pantokratoros and the Sketes of St. Andrew (Serai), St. Panteleimon and Prophet Elias.

The meeting of His All-Holiness with the delegation of the Holy Community was also attended by the undersecretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod Deacon Gregorios.
