Archbishop Demetrios, former of America Receives Highest Honor of the Serbian Orthodox Church

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. – His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, former of America, received the Order of Saint Sava of the 1st degree, Sunday, July 14, following the divine liturgy of the Assembly/Sabor of the Serbian Episcopal Council in the USA. This particular recognition is the highest honor bestowed by the Serbian Orthodox Church.

In his remarks, the Archbishop commented, “the fact that I am receiving this truly humbling honor during the time when the Serbian Orthodox Church is celebrating 800 years from the time they were granted Autocephaly makes this medal of St. Sava even more meaningful and prestigious.”

The Order of Saint Sava of the 1st degree is issued by the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Archbishop Demetrios was nominated by the Episcopal Council of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the United States of America for his twenty years of leadership, fostering positive Inter-Orthodox relations.
