Honoring 35 Years at Cathedral

Honoring 35 Years at Cathedral

On May 5, His Eminence Metropolitan Savas and the Sts. Constantine and Helen Cathedral community in Cleveland held a joyous celebration honoring Rev. Dr. Stephen Callos, who recently surpassed 35 years of service to the Cathedral, more than 60 percent of the church’s lifetime.

Metropolitan Savas opened the celebration with a prayer and Ted Theodore served as master of ceremonies.  The sold-out crowd heard reminiscences, humorous anecdotes, and words of admiration for Father’s leadership in welcoming and supporting both long term and new parish ministries.  Remarks were offered by Evangeline Ramsay, Fr. Stephen's sister, Fr. George Callos, and Dr. Marjorie Moyar, Event Chairperson. Fr. Stephen, in his response, said with a smile that his blessings and successes in life came from God’s Grace rather than his own ambitions or aspirations.  Metropolitan Savas began his remarks by quoting Galatians 6:2, “Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” His warm words of appreciation and praise centered on Fr. Stephen’s personification of that calling.

In recognition of Fr. Stephen’s long and devoted service, the Saint Priscilla Scholarship endowment is being established at Hellenic College Holy Cross to provide scholarships for female students.  Led by Parish Council President, Richard Warren, the drive raised more than $62,000 (easily exceeding its initial goal of $50,000) with more contributions arriving daily.
