From the Orthodox Christian Fellowship

Fishers, IN – Since 2003, the Hierarchs of the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas (SCOBA) have designated the Sunday following the Elevation of the Holy Cross as OCF College Student Sunday. They ask all faithful Orthodox Christians in North America to call to mind and prayer our college students.

Beginning in 1960 as a recent seminary graduate and continuing for several years after that, His Grace Bishop Dimitrios of Xanthos was the driving force in establishing what has become the all-important campus ministry arm of the Orthodox Church. Inspired by his dedication and devotion to college students, OCF has been able to build upon the foundation he laid 50 years ago.  As well, in the year 2000 OCF experienced a renewal, which included the strong support of the various Orthodox jurisdictions in the United States. Therefore, this fall marks the 50th anniversary of OCF’s creation and the 10th anniversary of its current efforts.

Orthodox Christian Fellowship has grown from 50 to more than 300 local chapters, established a network of Regional Chaplains, raised hundreds of student leaders through our Student Advisory Board, created educational curriculum, increased participation in our annual College Conference from 200 to 400 participants and gave nearly a thousand students a life-transforming experience through our alternative spring break program known as Real Break.

“A home away from home” is one of the most common descriptions of OCF given by Orthodox college students and alumni.  This is an honor for OCF that we are an extension of their homes and families.  This is also a great tribute to the many spiritual advisors across North America who devote their love to campus ministry. OCF would like to thank you for helping us be ‘”a home away from home for 50 incredible years!”
