The Archon of the Holy Great Church of Christ, Mr. Athanasios Martinos, was recently appointed by the decision of the Greek government and is due to take up his duties in the near future

The Archon Exarchos of the Holy Great Church of Christ, Mr. Athanasios Martinos, who was recently appointed by the honorable Greek government as the new Governor of Mount Athos, visited the see of the Ecumenical Patriarchate today, Thursday, September 5.

The new Governor paid his respects to the Ecumenical Patriarch who is the Bishop of Mount Athos, and requested the Patriarchal blessing on the occasion of his new and multifaceted duties. His All-Holiness, who will visit Mount Athos from October 19 to October 22, wished the new Governor a fruitful and prosperous service as the representative of the Greek state on Holy Athos, an ancient part of the canonical jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Throne.

During his meeting with His All-Holiness, Mr. Martinos was accompanied by his wife Marina and University Professor Emeritus Dr. George Penelis and his wife, as well as by Dr. Gregory Penelis.
