Obituary for Rev. Protopresbyter George Vaporis

​Rev. Protopresbyter Fr. George Vaporis fell asleep in the Lord February 26th, 2021. Fr. Vaporis is survived by his belowed Presbytera Kalliopi and their four children: Michael, Katherine, Basil, and Markella and 7 grandchildren. He is also survived by his only surviving sibling, Mary Vaporis Pikos. He is pre deceased by his brother, Rev. Dr. Nomikos Vaporis, past dean of Holy Cross, as well as brother, Atty. John Vaporis.

Born on December 21, 1941 in Campbell, OH, Fr. Vaporis graduated from the Holy Cross Seminary in 1965. He was ordained a deacon by Bishop Theodosius of Pittsburgh on January 9, 1966, and a priest on February 20. Fr. George received the Offikia of Protopresbyter in 1991.

Fr. Vaporis served the following parishes: Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Morgantown, WV; St. George in Fresno, CA; Holy Trinity in Augusta, GA; Holy Trinity in Canton, OH; Holy Mother of God in Tallassee, FL; Holy Trinity in Colombia, SC; Annunciation in North Miami, FL; Holy Trinity in Nashville, TN; Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Plymouth, MI. After 43 years of service, he retired on October 1, 2009 and settled in Nashville.

Fr. Vaporis listed among his favorite activities - listening to classical music, football, and cooking prosphora.

The funeral for Fr. George will be on Thursday, March 4th at 11:00 am at the Holy Archangels Greek Orthodox Monastery in Spring Branch, Texas.
